Invitation For This Friday

Posting Number 3289   Date: 10/09/19     Return to Posting List

Dear Carder Steuben Club Friends,

It was a tremendous pleasure to attend your recent symposium and to spend two days admiring and learning about Carder and Steubens glass. As a first time attendee, thank you for making me feel welcome.

On the topic of symposiums and collecting glass, I write to share with you news of a symposium that my organization, The Neustadt Collection of Tiffany Glass, is hosting this Friday, October 11, at the National Arts Club in New York Beguiled by Tiffany: 125 Years of Collecting explores the past, present and future of collecting works by Louis C. Tiffany. I certainly recognize that Club members are passionate about Carders art glass, but perhaps you will find our topic appealing because you yourselves are collectors and many of you have an interest in learning about art glass made by Carders contemporaries.

We have wonderful speakers sharing new insights and research: Alice Cooney Frelinghuysen, curator of American decorative arts at the Metropolitan Museum; Arlie Sulka, owner of Lillian Nassau gallery and glass appraiser on Antiques Roadshow; Jennifer Thalheimer, curator at the Morse Museum of American Art; Paul Doros, author and art glass expert; and me. For a full description of the program, please click on the link above.

It promises to be a terrific day in a beautiful setting and I hope you will be able to join us. I look forward to seeing you again, if not on Friday, then at a future date.

With kind regards,

Lindsy Parrott

Carder Steuben Decorations - Studio Hot Shop

Symposium attendees were treated to a hot glass demonstration in CMOG's Studio by Christa Westbrook. Christa and her team demonstrated a pulled feather, cased glass and peacock eye design on the first piece, and a shaded grotesque vase for the second piece. Attendees were not able to see the finished pieces, as the completed pieces went right into the annealing oven. The final pieces are shown here.
