Better Late Than Never

Posting Number 3185   Date: 04/30/19     Return to Posting List

In 2012 the Gazette consisted of Gmail emailings. Then at the end of the year we moved on to a hosting service, Constant Contact. Daily you receive e-mails hosted by CC, but with my e-mail address, . Why all this background? Because some participants have continued, from time to time, writing to the unattended Gmail address. To anyone we've not attended to because of this, we apologize. One of these e-mails to the Gazette at the Gmail address from May of last year, reads as follows:

"A recent Gazette included a question regarding whether Tyrian was always signed. The simple answer is no, but that answer deserves some additional commentary.

"Tyrian Vases and Bowls are usually but not always signed "Tyrian" and Tyrian lamp bases and shades are usually unsigned. However, many years ago I purchased a melon-shaped small, unsigned Tyrian Vase in an undocumented shape that I sold to the Frank Blake, the late great Steuben dealer. I suspect that because the shape was undocumented, this may have been a "lunch-box " piece.
