Iridized and Green Jade

Posting Number 2889   Date: 02/12/18     Return to Posting List

Reifschlager Gallery At The Rockwell Museum--pre 2000

Upon seeing a piece of Carder's Jade for the first time, one is impressed by its minimal color quality to a flawless item of the mineral jade.

Of all the colors created by Frederick Carder none proved as popular as the cool refreshing green of his beloved Jade.

A few rules which may prove helpful in sifting the genuine from the purported.

Steuben Jade items generally have infinitely LESS bubbles than the European counterpart.

The size of the bubbles, when they occur in Steuben Jade, are apt to be pinhead size or smaller.

Bubbles are round, whereas the European variety tend to elongate and resemble ellipses.

The finished matrix of Steuben appears equi-dense, i.e., the mixture is quite evenly distributed, there being no "thin" spots or poor color distribution.
