Growing Interest in Steuben

Sharing Knowledge

Hi again

I see though how Steuben collector's love to share their opinions with each other. When I worked at Plantation Galleries, we called it the "Coffee shop talkers" and we didn't have time for it because we sold investment quality antiques for a living. I do find it interesting though now to a point and very informative. I have regrets now that when people made the trip to the gallery, we didn't partake or even share much of our knowledge. In life as you know, you have the teachers and then the rest of us lol.

I am headed for South Dakota so if you know of any museums, galleries or open collections out that way, I would love to visit. I am finding that the interest in Steuben glass is equal or greater than most Tiffany glass right now. Most of the prices haven't recovered but the interest is there which is a good start. I also think it is because of the group. I see it with lesser collectibles such as MCM. They have thousands of followers on Facebook which generates interest around the world and some of the collectors are ready to stretch for certain pieces. Even with Haeger pottery now that the factory is closed, there is so much interest with the Facebook page. Tiffany collectors have never had a serious group which doesn't help any.

Have a great week!

I think this compote is in the green threaded, engraved floral pattern. Note: It is signed with the Hawkes fleur-de-lis, which fits for the time period.
